What happens if we cut off all funding and assistance to Ukraine? This is what many on the right demand we do. "Not one more penny to Ukraine!" they cry. They yell "It's bankrupting America!"
The reality is in total we've spent a little over 1% of one year's total federal budget. Or only about 6% of one year's military budget. And it's really far less when you consider most of that figure is listing obsolete weapons at fully original purchase price. Obsolete weapons we pay huge amounts to store and even more to eventually destroy. Compare that to what's actually bankrupting us, the 57% of our budget that pays for our bloated, out of control welfare state. Or the 8% of the budget paid in interest on our massive national debt. But no, it's the relatively tiny amount spent on Ukraine that's going to bring down our economy. It's ludicrous. But the Ukraine opponents buy it as ‘fact’ without the slightest question. Their delusion really is that deep.
There's one question I've asked those demanding we walk away over and over. 100% of the time with 100% of the people I ask, they refuse to even acknowledge the question, much less answer it. That's because in the back of their minds they know the answer. What happens if we walk away from Ukraine?
Let's lay out what walking away from Ukraine really means.
First we need to look at the existing situation. Biden has slow-walked aid to Ukraine. And for quite a while most European nations did the same, especially Germany. They could have given all the tanks, armored vehicles, HIMARS, missiles, ammo, mines and more right up front. If they had it would have been a very, very different war.
The delays allowed the Russians plenty of time to build multi-layer defenses in depth. This resulted in the stalemate we have today. Hundreds of thousands of troops on both sides have been maimed or killed because of this. And they will continue to be maimed and killed as both sides batter themselves against entrenched defensive lines. Biden and Germany did this. All that blood is on America’s and Germany’s hands.
The rationale given is that giving too much aid too quickly would have lead to rapid Ukrainian advances. This would provoke the Russians and lead to the use of nuclear weapons. Thus the appeasement strategy of limited aid carefully calibrated to prevent a quick Ukrainian victory or a major Russian advance.
But every single dire nuclear threat made by the Russians as each new weapons system has led to... nothing. Absolutely nothing. That's because the Russians are evil, but not suicidal. Putin's goal is survival and keeping his own personal power. The last thing he wants is an escalating nuclear war that would leave Russia in ashes and him likely dead.
The other reason is not openly admitted, but widely spoken about among the D.C. blob in hushed whispers. There are many in our military and government that think giving Ukraine enough to survive, but not to win best serves our interests. Why? Because the longer the war is dragged out, the more it bleeds Russia, militarily and economically. Of course to believe this you have not give a shit about the horrible death toll of soldiers and civilians. Yet there's a large faction pushing this very plan. This is what the CIA, the Deep State and globalist elites have decided we’ll do. And many have become their useful idiots in supporting it.
But instead of limited, slow-walked aid, what happens if we cut off all aid and just walk away from Ukraine? Best case scenario, with no further U.S. aid Europe gives more. And while Europe has stepped up in the past, giving even more than we have, this would still mean the massive stocks of obsolete weapons the U.S. keeps and the modern weapons we produce with our industrial might would be removed from Ukraine's arsenal.
Ukraine is already having a tough time with the ongoing stalemate and war of attrition. Contrary to wishful thinking by those eager to believe Ukraine has already lost, they still have a pool of several hundred thousand military age males to conscript from. And they're conscripting some women for non-combat support roles. They’ve successfully fought '“the second most powerful military on Earth” to a dead standstill. They have the people, but they can't keep up the war of attrition forever.
Everyone has repeatedly underestimated the amazing grit, courage, determination and innovation of the Ukrainians. There's no question that if we opened the floodgates and gave Ukraine all the weapons, ammo and equipment they needed that it would radically change the situation on the ground. With modern fighter jets, tanks, armored vehicles, air defense systems, demining equipment, deep strike missiles and whatever else they'd bring Russian forces to their knees in short order. In the long run that would cost us less than this ongoing war of attrition grind that can't lead to anything but eventual defeat.
Conversely, with America's aid removed the initiative definitely shifts to Russia. This is not just Putin's wet dream. It's his primary strategy. The FSB is mounting a massive information warfare campaign to foment more war weariness among the American people. And it's working. They're using bot networks to amplify anti-Ukraine voices on the right and left. They've created large numbers of fake social media accounts pumping out a huge volume of anti-Ukraine propaganda. State-run 'news' channels like Russia Today are spewing out lies eagerly snapped up by opponents of Ukraine. Zelenskyy has been demonized as a greedy, corrupt psychopath. The narrative that the war is just a Democrat money laundering operation and globalist power play has been by far their most successful coup in the information war. Say what you want about the Russian military. Their info war game is way ahead of anyone else's.
What would this shift in the initiative to Russia mean? Up until now the Ukrainians have been successful at knocking back the Russian invasion and keeping their occupying forces at bay. Russia has been pouring all its resources into trying to break through Ukraine's defenses. They've taken losses in men, equipment and money that beggar belief. As Europe continues to wean itself off of cheap Russian energy the Russian economy is only being kept afloat by massive military spending. Putin is all in on Ukraine no matter what the cost. And the cost has been astronomical for Russia. They also can’t keep that up forever.
Some are naïve enough to believe there could be a peace treaty. "Trade land for peace!" they demand of Ukraine. Imagine if some foreign power demanded we surrender and give up American soil to hostile foreign invaders in exchange for a peace treaty. Like us, that's a non-starter for Ukraine. Not just because they'll never give up an inch of their sovereign territory to the hated Russian monsters. Mainly because they know the Russians and Putin all too well. Putin has never honored a single treaty or agreement made with the west. He's routinely violated every single one. With such a show of weakness by the west Putin would see his chance. He's use a peace treaty to rearm and rebuild his military and then just invade again. It'd be idiotic to trust Putin to do otherwise.
Thus far the Ukrainians have killed three Russians for every one of their soldiers killed. With so much less aid and weaponry that will change quickly. Ukraine will no longer be able to resist the constant and ongoing Russian offensives along the entire front. As Russia pushed Ukrainian forces farther back the Ukrainians will no longer be able to effectively interdict Russian logistics. This will make the situation much worse. If this happens the defeat of Ukraine will only be a matter of time. And we will be the ones who handed Ukraine to Putin.
Once Russia has defeated and taken Ukraine, what happens? We already know the answer. We've seen it in the occupied eastern obasts. Horrific torture and execution of any who resist. Mass deportation of suspected sympathizers to the new Russian gulag arpeggio. Mass immigration of ethnic Russians into Ukraine to dilute their population. All Ukrainian property seized and handed over to Russian oligarchs and Ukrainian separatist traitors. Mass kidnapping of Ukrainian children for adoption by couples in Russia. The Ukrainian culture and language erased forever. Everything Ukraine produces subordinated to and stolen by Russia. It's Stalin's genocide, the Holodomor, finally fully realized.
Then there's the strategic implications for the west. When Ukraine gave up it's large nuclear weapons arsenal they did so on the American and European promise that we'd defend them against Russian military aggression. This betrayal would prove to the world that America will happily abandon it's allies and stab them in the back when the going gets rough. Every shitbag dictator and terrorist group on the planet will be emboldened to use force to take what they want. No one will fear American reprisal. And no one will trust us or want to ally with us. Nor should they. Any claim America has to the moral high ground will become a bad joke.
Putin would be ecstatic. With such a glorious, hard-won victory he'll be treated like a god in Russia. The great savior of The Motherland. And his long string of invasions and interventions of strategic nations would continue. He will go forward with his openly proclaimed dream of restoring all the 'lost lands' that the Soviet Union and Warsaw Pact once controlled. He will use his standard hybrid warfare 'little green men' tactics against NATO nations at first to give him deniability and prevent open warfare. When he's subverted enough European nations then comes the standard next phase in Russian military strategic doctrine; open warfare. He will attack with conventional weapons, backed by the threat of global nuclear armageddon if the west uses nukes to try and stop him. There will be once again a massive conventional war on the European continent with millions of American troops fighting and dying alongside an entire generation of young western Europeans. Genocide, world war, death on an unimaginable scale, the enslavement of millions by a ruthless totalitarian regime, and worse. Quite possibly even the whole mess devolving into a global thermonuclear holocaust that ends civilization as we know it. Pure evil will reign supreme by our hand.
This is the future that those demanding we walk away from Ukraine would create for America and the west. This is the price. If we do it, be ready to pay. Because that bill will soon come due.
Shaking my head at this article. I can't believe you've bought all the neocon propaganda hook, line, and sinker.
