The answer to the question 'do the U.S. or Russia want a war between U.S./NATO & Russian troops?' is always 'NO!'
Everyone on both sides understands that it would be at the minimum a disaster for both sides and at worst a global thermonuclear holocaust, ending our civilization.
NATO has gone far out of its way to insure no NATO soldiers are anywhere near the front lines. NATO aircraft haven't operated in Ukrainian airspace. U.S. and EU diplomats have repeatedly made clear we don't want war with Russia.
Russia has issued lots of threats, including the use of tactical nuclear weapons, but that kind of sabre-rattling is SOP for them. Within the context of their usual bluster and bullshit they've indicated that they don't want war with us, either. They know full well they couldn’t win. No Russian forces have violated the territory of any NATO nation, though the have thousands of miles of border with present or future NATO nations.
The only ones calling for war, claiming war is 'imminent' or asking if we're about to have a war are people looking for attention and clicks. That would be our enemy media, politicians and online personalities. It's fine to worry about high tensions and the possibility of mistakes leading to very bad outcomes. But the 'war with Russia!' fear mongers need to STFU. We don't need the hysteria right now, or to be stoking Russia's notoriously high level of paranoia.
Stay calm and carry on. Please, FFS!
