The left has gone feral. There was a time the left served a useful purpose. There was a creative tension between the right and the left. The right sought to preserve traditional values and hold people accountable for their actions. They also acted as a limiter on the left's passion for change. The left bought compassion to the mix. They fought for inalienable rights, especially privacy and free speech. They created new systems and reformed the old calcified ones. The balance between these two forces was messy but beneficial.
All that's changed now. The left have become the authoritarian pseudomoral puritans they always accused the religious right of being. They seek to burn their heretics at the stake, metaphorically (not physically... yet). They're attacking free speech, labelling it 'violence'. Instead of promoting personal privacy doxxing their enemies has become a favorite tactic. They try to destroy the careers of those who disagree with them, get them shunned from society, libeled by the mass media and excluded from our banking and credit card systems. They now personify the person the left hated most, Senator Joe McCarthy. The parallels between the January 6th congressional committee and the House Unamerican Activities Committee of the late 1960s are striking. They've become their own most feared demon. They've corrupted our government, justice system, media and society itself.
As the anti-communist hysteria of the early Cold War period collapsed, so is our current leftist moral panic approaching a similar inflection point. We can't know what that inflection point will look like. With McCarthyism it was a soft-spoken JAG lawyer representing the U.S. Army against McCarthy's charges that the service branch was 'full of communists', Joseph N. Welch. As the Senate hearings progressed, finally Welch had had enough. His famous line ended McCarthy's power and career in that very moment.
“Until this moment, Senator, I think I never really gauged your cruelty or your recklessness. Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last?”
And that was the inflection point. The anti-communist moral panic collapsed. The 'Red Scare' was over. Of course McCarthy, while he was personally a vicious power-hungry sociopath, turned out to be absolutely right about the level of communist penetration of our nation. None the less America's fixation on it was at an end. It quickly became a tired cliché thanks to McCarthy's excesses.
We see the very same kind of excesses with today's Democrats and the left. We may have a modern Joseph Welch or Edward R. Murrow who stands up and destroys our current moral panic with one succinct line. Or it may die the death of a thousand cuts. But like all past moral panics, die it will. The sooner the better.
All indications are that Americans have just about had enough of it. As Scott Adams says, the best way to destroy an ideology is take it to the greatest extremes possible. We don't have to do that because the left is doing that for us. They couldn't stop pushing their woke insanity farther and farther out into left field if their lives depended on it. They're the ones making what seems to have some basis into something so bizarre and repellent that no normal person can stomach it. It's running on a pure denial of reality right now. In the end reality always wins. That's because reality has consequences.
The question is, how much more destruction of our society must occur before America wakes up and fully rejects woke leftism? Most of us are shocked it's been allowed to get this far. The upcoming midterm elections will be a start. The left is desperate already, but the losses they suffer will push them into a total frenzy as they see their power slipping away. If you think their insanity is bad now, just wait. And that's what I expect will be enough to force the inflection point. The left will become so angry, vicious and irrational that it will stun America. Given their recent past, how could the left react any other way?
This gives us cause for hope that this long nightmare may soon come to an end. We must make sure that the neocons are held accountable along with the left and Dems. It will be our opportunity to restore America and its traditional values. We'll be able to address the abuses of power that have corrupted our system.
This can only happen if we keep up the pressure on the new crop of elected officials we put into office. The system always corrupts its minions. Our own complacency always allows it. That's where our focus will need to be. That's how we serve our nation. If we don't do that the elites will again succeed in manipulating the situation to their advantage and corrupting everything. Let's not repeat the past yet again. Let's take the hard road. If we truly want a better America, this is how we do it.
How much more destruction? Given what was allowed to happen during the summer of 2020, I wonder if it won't take a third world war to bring us back to reality.

Thank you for your excellent commentary on the baleful condition our country and society has fallen into. The journey down into this pit of desolation has been a long process facilitated by the insidious programs a cabal of secular progressive one world collectivists have infused into our educational systems, our media and entertainment systems, the liberation theology they have used to reinterpret our constitution and create activist legal jurisprudence, etc. The pertinent comment at the end where you advocate for a vigilant return to a country respecting the values of natural reason under God is essentially significant here: "The system always corrupts its minions. Our own complacency always allows it". The essential truth of that cannot be forgotten as it is what has brought us to this point. It is essential to remember, we may terminate the evil of the "left" and restore a sense of principled normalcy, but the global establishment of collaborative oligarchs (currently the WEF) is always alive and manipulating events [the way they got rid of the threat of Trump'.
